About

How do artists think about space? That question animates a new two-part exhibition by Marin County–based artist Zheng Chongbin (b. 1961). In dialogue with the museum’s transformation project, I Look for the Sky explores how the manipulation of light can profoundly change our perception of architectural space.

SF/Arts Curator Insight

Two major installations by Zheng Chongbin arrive at the Asian Art museum this March. I Look for the Sky, in Chongbin’s words, “Treats the light as a living form.” Large suspended panels catch and refract the light to create abstract, seemingly virtual, space.
The second set of work, State of Oscillation, draws attention to bodies in space as museum-goers encounter multi-media installations. The ink paintings and videos create spontaneous moments of occurrence and absence, pulling one’s perception into a dynamic experience. These are just two of the exciting exhibitions opening at the museum this Spring.
