Truce: A Christmas Wish From the Great War
About
In 2014, City Lights premiered a new play to mark the 100th anniversary of the Christmas truce: when World War I troops on both sides of the lines staged an impromptu cease-fire on the battlefields of France. Truce: A Christmas Wish from the Great War tells a compelling and moving story through scenes, vignettes, live music and song, and letters from the period.
SF/Arts Curator Insight
City Lights world-premiered this drama, by Kit Wilder and Jeffrey Bracco, in 2014, and an archival recording of that production is streaming now, free. The show marks the 100th anniversary of the “Christmas truce” of World War I, when, in 1914, troops on both sides agreed to a temporary ceasefire. Music, songs, letters and documents of the period enrich the story of a wounded German soldier and his German nurse; and an English soldier and his wife back home.
