About
SAN FRANCISCO BALLET’S 2023 SEASON
Of all the ways you could spend an afternoon or evening out, why not go with the one that combines the best things about, well, everything? The best of music, fashion, and culture. Where some of the world’s best athletes execute triple pirouettes in pointe shoes. Where the band just so happens to be a Grammy-award-winning orchestra. Where the story, the setting, and the spectacle keep you on the edge of your seat for hours on end. It’s all here. It’s all in ballet.
SF/Arts Curator Insight
San Francisco Ballet has planned an epic conclusion to its 90th anniversary season with three can’t-be-missed programs at the War Memorial Opera House. A mixed repertory bill joining together work from Helgi Tomasson, Myles Thatcher and William Forsythe, “The Colors of Dance” (March 14th-19th), celebrates the nuances of neo-classical, contemporary and traditional ballet. Then, for the remainder of the Spring, narrative masterworks take center stage. Brilliant theatrical devices, stunning choreography and hilarious scenework have made “Cinderella©,” choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon, a family-friendly favorite at SFB. The magical adventure unfolds March 31st to April 8th. And for the final full-length ballet of the 2023 season, mood and atmosphere take a dramatic shift. The beauty, hope and excitement of young love quickly morphs into a tale of despair and tragedy in Tomasson’s “Romeo & Juliet,” running April 21st-30th.
