Lynn Hershman Leeson “Shadow Stalker” - closed temporarily
About
PLEASE NOTE THE De YOUNG IS TEMPORARILY CLOSED DUE TO COVID RESTRICTIONS.
An interactive installation by Lynn Hershman Leeson, Shadow Stalker, extends the artist’s career-long concern with technological surveillance and control into the algorithmic realm of machine learning. The work delivers a harsh critique of the techno-utopian belief in the benevolent efficacy of AI systems by articulating the problematic implications of employing them in the social sphere.
SF/Arts Curator Insight
The reliably thought provoking local filmmaker Lynn Hershman Leeson continues her deep dive into the ominous side technology and surveillance and its threat to civil rights and privacy. Here, she challenges benevolent notions of AI with an unsparing critique of algorithmic machine learning, and predictive policing (Remember “Minority Report?”) The interactive video installation is part of the exhibition, “Uncanny Valley: Being Human in the Age of AI.”
