About
KIM’S CONVENIENCE is the hilarious and heartwarming award-winning comedy drama about a Korean family-run corner store. Popularized by the hit Netflix series, KIM’S CONVENIENCE is a feel-good ode to generations of immigrants who have made Canada the country that it is today.
SF/Arts Curator Insight
Playwright Ins Choi stars as Korean immigrant/convenience store owner Mr. Kim in American Conservatory Theater’s season closer, “Kim’s Convenience.” Adapted as a six-season Netflix show, Choi’s comedy-drama focuses on Mr. Kim’s struggles to adjust to his gentrifying Toronto neighborhood and relate to his Canadian-born children. (Choi directed and played the son at the Toronto Fringe Festival premiere in 2011; here Weyni Mengesha directs.)
