Hurricane Diane
About
Carol just wants her house to have the kind of gardening magazine worthy curb appeal that will be the envy of her New Jersey cul-de-sac. But then the Greek God Dionysus returns in the guise of a butch gardener named Diane, hell bent on reversing climate change and restoring earthly order by seducing a band of mortal followers.
SF/Arts Curator Insight
Described as a “timely tragic-comedy,” playwright Madeleine George’s 90-minute play at Aurora Theatre features a gardener, Diane, who’s actually the Greek god Dionysus came to earth in disguise to reverse climate change. Originally produced in 2017, the play won an Off-Broadway Obie Award in 2019; one reviewer called it “the play we need right now.” (Fun fact: There actually was a Hurricane Diane, in 1955.)
