About

San Francisco International LGBTQ+ Film Festival, announced that its third annual “Carol Day” will celebrate the 10th anniversary of Carol (2015) with the presentation of the inaugural Frameline Queer Lens Award for Filmmaking to director Todd Haynes.

Dubbed “SF’s hottest new holiday tradition,” Frameline’s recent “Carol Day” screenings have played to sold-out audiences (via SF Chronicle). While past celebrations have featured Carol-inspired costume contests, drag performances, and comedy routines, the 10th anniversary celebration has even more to offer attendees, including pre-show events hosted by local drag icon Peaches Christ.

SF/Arts Curator Insight

As part of its queer holiday tradition, Frameline marks the tenth anniversary of “Carol,” directed by Todd Haynes, with pre-show events and a post-screening Q&A with Haynes. An adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s audacious 1952 novel, “The Price of Salt,” the movie is set in 1950s New York at Christmas and stars Cate Blanchett as an older suburban woman, in the throes of a volatile divorce, who pursues a passionate, forbidden romance with a demure young photographer, played by Rooney Mara.
