The big Tony Award-winning Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice musical about Eva Peron’s rise to fame gets a new downtown production by artistic director Bill English at SF Playhouse. Set in Argentina between 1934 and 1952, it follows the journey of Eva (Sophia Alawi) from childhood to an acting career to her marriage to president Juan Peron to her early death. Love her or hate her, you can’t forget her signature song, “Don’t cry for me, Argentina.”
