Why did the women turn blue? There are many complex and prickly answers to that question offered up by Brea Souders' ghostly images of women taken from faded beauty posters displayed in storefront windows so long they have been bleached by the sun. Intended to sell an idea of beauty in harmony with nature, these worn out materials have ceased fulfilling their original purpose, instead highlighting their own strangeness, revealing the artifice behind both their message and their construction. The women fall into an unmoored liminal space, humanity — or some version of it — fading.
