Alejandro Varela with R.O. Kwon
About
Join us at Book Passage for an author event in celebration of Alejandro Varela's new book Middle Spoon: A Novel! Joined in-conversation with R.O. Kwon, the author of the nationally bestselling novel Exhibit.
A whipsmart, blazingly funny novel about heartbreak, unconventional love, and the way society could be, from National Book Award finalist Alejandro Varela
SF/Arts Curator Insight
His debut novel “The Town of Babylon” (2022) was a finalist for the National Book Award and his story collection “The People Who Report More Stress” (2023) earned an International Latino Awards Silver Medal. Varela’s second novel is “Middle Spoon”, about heartbreak within an unconventional, polyamorous relationship. Dumped by his boyfriend, the narrator is left to wonder if he can truly share his life with both his husband and kids and his lover.

Book Passage claimed the title of the “Bay Area’s Liveliest Bookstore” years ago as it was hosting more than 800 author events, classes, conferences, children’s events, writers’ organizations, book groups, and other activities each year. The pandemic forced us to slow down some of these activities a bit, but we’ve also now added a whole array of online events & classes.
