15th San Francisco Dance Film Festival
About
San Francisco Dance Film Festival’s 2024 season will celebrate our 15-Year anniversary with enhanced in-person programs, building back the much-missed excitement of film on the big screen and live interactions among artists and audiences. We may also offer virtual programming and bonus material to include our international community who may not be able to attend in person.
SF/Arts Curator Insight
Among the delightful offerings are films with sinister origin stories. “Peaky Blinders: The Redemption of Thomas Shelby,” a filmed staged dance performance, takes its cue from Steven Knight’s hit British gangster series and the trajectory of its violent lead character, memorably played by the charismatic, much lauded Irish actor, Cillian Murphy. The doc, “Pol Pot Dancing” concerns a royal Cambodian dancer who raises her husband’s younger brother only to discover to her horror, years later, while enslaved by the Khymer Rouge, that the boy became the murderous dictator, Pol Pot.
