Author of the seminal “Close to the Machine: Technophilia and Its Discontents,” about her time as a computer programmer in the late ’70s commuting to Silicon Valley from San Francisco’s SoMa district, as well as the novels “The Bug” and “By Blood,” Ellen Ullman reads from and discusses her new memoir, “Life in Code: A Personal History of Technology” as part of the Berkeley Arts & Letters series.
