SF DocFest is an annual festival devoted to documentary cinema. SF DocFest 2014 opens with Robert Green's new film "Actress" which follows Brandy Burre, an actress who gave up her role in HBO's "The Wire" to start a family in upstate New York. After playing the role of wife and mother, Burre decided to re-enter the acting business. The film will play as part of a retrospective of Robert Greene's earlier work. Visit the website for updates.
This homegrown fest is a magnet for docs about outsiders, risk takers and rule breakers, from magicians, pornographers and eccentric artists to underground musicians and a Barack Obama impersonator. “Wicker Kittens” plunges into the world of competitive jig-saw puzzling while “The Internet’s Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swatz” relates the sad saga of the young computer prodigy who was the target of a government probe and committed suicide at 26.
