Mata Hari: The Naked Spy

Christopher B. Smith Rafael Film Center

Notorious was Mata Hari's middle name. Thousands flocked to see the seductress perform veiled erotic dances in Europe but it wasn't long before she was convicted as a WW1 German spy and executed. Once considered the epitome of treachery, deception and allure, this new doc reveals undisclosed facts about her--she was Dutch, not Javanese-- and asks if she was merely a sexually adventurous, independent woman victimized by the prejudices of her time.
