Hollywoodism: Jews, Movies, and the American Dream

The Contemporary Jewish Museum

Through clips, archival footage, home movies and commentary by critics such as J. Hoberman and author Neal Gabler, who wrote a book on the subject, this doc examines how Eastern European Jewish emigres shaped Hollywood's Golden Age and, by extension, American society. It focuses on a half-dozen moguls who ruled the studios and the themes they promoted: the outsider, the importance of family and community, patriotism and championing the underdog.
