Black is Beautiful

Museum of the African Diaspora

Featuring over forty photographs of black women and men with natural hair and clothes that reclaimed their African roots, Black Is Beautiful: The Photography of Kwame Brathwaite, organized by Aperture Foundation, New York, is the first-ever major exhibition dedicated to this key figure of the second Harlem Renaissance.

This is what SF/Arts curator Christian L. Frock has to say about Black is Beautiful :

This traveling retrospective of photographer Kwame Brathwaite is organized by Aperture Foundation, a New York non-profit founded by the likes of Ansel Adams and Dorothea Lange. A key figure of the second Harlem Renaissance, Brathwaite’s long career has focused on capturing natural black beauty and dismantling racist beauty conventions. Bonus: The free Educator Resource Guide is fantastic.
