From the Gold Rush to the Earthquake

California Historical Society

From the Gold Rush to the Earthquake: Selections from the Collection presents highlights from CHS's holdings of paintings, photographs, manuscripts and ephemera. Focused on key topics in California's late-nineteenth-century history, the exhibition features works from the Gold Rush, the exploration of the Sierra Nevadas and coastal regions, the rise of agriculture and industry in the state, San Francisco's Chinatown, and the 1906 earthquake.

This is what SF/Arts curator Christian L. Frock has to say about From the Gold Rush to the Earthquake :

This exhibition explores the CHS’s holdings of paintings, photographs, manuscripts and ephemera to consider the Gold Rush, early Sierra Nevada explorations, and San Francisco’s 1906 Earthquake and Fires. Parallel to this, The Life and Work of Mabel McKay, explores the life and work of the last known native speaker of the Long Valley Cache Creek Pomo tribe from Northern California.
