A Noh Christmas Carol

Theatre of Yugen

Returning for its third year in a row, the critically acclaimed "A Noh Christmas Carol" closes out 2019 at Theatre of Yugen. You think you may know the story of Ebenezer Scrooge and his three ghosts, but not like this. Come experience this beloved classic tale through the eyes of Ebezo Sukurooji, Jakube Mashima [Jacob Marley], and the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future....

This is what SF/Arts curator Jean Schiffman has to say about A Noh Christmas Carol :

The story of one man’s redemption plays out in the classical Japanese theatrical forms of Noh, Kabuki and Kyogen, plus the avant-garde dance form Butoh, in the return of this Theatre of Yugen holiday show. Adapted from the Dickens classic by Theatre of Yugen founder Yuriko Doi and Cienna Stewart, it’s complete with traditional Japanese costumes. Director Nick Ishimaru, helming a six-member ensemble, calls it “a visual and musical spectacle.”
