Nutcracker's 75th Anniversary

San Francisco Ballet

On Christmas Eve, 1944, San Francisco Ballet presented America's first full-length Nutcracker while the Battle of the Bulge was underway, kicking off a nation-wide tradition. Now in its 75th anniversary year, the Company shares the magic of the timeless ballet with performances of Helgi Tomasson's set-in-San Francisco Nutcracker, danced to Tchaikovsky's timeless score, at the historic War Memorial Opera House.

This is what SF/Arts curator Heather Desaulniers has to say about Nutcracker's 75th Anniversary :

San Francisco Ballet’s “Nutcracker” is an annual holiday tradition for so many Bay Area residents, and this year marks a special milestone - 75 years since SFB premiered the very first North American production! Spend Christmas Eve with Clara Stahlbaum and her family, and then join her on a whirlwind journey where she meets life size mice, fluttering snowflakes, the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Nutcracker Prince.
