With Drawn Arms

San Jose Museum of Art

During the 1968 summer games, Olympic gold-medalist Tommie Smith raised a gloved fist. His protest of human rights abuses and the struggle for civil rights continues to resonate today, and is explored in a series of collaborations between Smith and Los Angeles–based conceptual artist Glenn Kaino.

This is what SF/Arts curator Jesse Hamlin has to say about With Drawn Arms :

Conductor Ben Simon and the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra end the year in a Mozart state of mind, opening with Symphony No. 1 in E-flat major, written by Mozart at age 8, followed by the Violin Concerto No. 5, featuring the orchestra’s 11-year-old Debut Artist, Amaryn Olmeda. Mozart’s great “Jupiter” Symphony caps the night.
