BRAVA! Theater Center

An exploration of the story of Chicanas during the Zoot Suit Riots told through dance, music, spoken word, and archival video.

This is what SF/Arts curator Jean Schiffman has to say about Pachuquismo :

An evening-length production choreographed and conceived by Vanessa Sanchez, the show merges Tap and Son Jarocho (traditional music from Veracruz), to reflect Chicanx and Pachuca culture as well as the history of the Zoot Suit Riots. Featuring Chicana poly-rhythms, music and video, "Pachuquismo" explores the role of the Pachuca in the 1940's while examining systemic racism and community struggle.
