¡ESO SÍ!

Arenas Dance Company

Eso sí, presented by Dance Mission, celebrates the 20th anniversary of choreographer Susana Arenas Pedroso's arrival in the States and her contributions as a lead artist/cultural bearer of Afro-Cuban dance, rhythms, songs, and stories. The evening-length work includes both live drumming and recorded music, features Afro-Cuban folkloric and popular dance, incorporates movement and text, and integrates the sacred and the profane in Cuban culture.

This is what SF/Arts curator Heather Desaulniers had to say about ¡ESO SÍ! :

With a mesmerizing mélange of AfroCuban dance and music, Arenas Dance Company unveils their latest dance project in two Bay Area locations – one night in Oakland and then in the city the following weekend. A narrative work commemorating Director Susana Arenas Pedroso’s arrival in the States two decades ago, “Eso sí!” mines immigration from multiple facets, both personal and political.
