Studio Misión by René Yanez

University of San Francisco

"Studio Misión" offers a look into the world and creative process of San Francisco artist and curator René Yanez, focusing on his final years from 2016 to 2018. Bringing together Yanez's most recent projects and sketchbooks, the works presented reveal his state of mind, his medically-induced visions, the faces of the Mission District that meant so much to him, and the politics that he fought for to the end. Curated by Rio Yanez.

This is what SF/Arts curator Christian L. Frock has to say about Studio Misión by René Yanez :

Legendary artist and curator René Yañez (1942-2018) left behind an incredible legacy in San Francisco, spanning several decades of cultural influence as a co-founder of Galería de la Raza and as one of the first curators to introduce Frida Kahlo’s work on the West Coast. This exhibition considers the artworks made privately in his final years, previously seen by few.
