Fin de siècle

New Century Chamber Orchestra

New Century opens the season with a tapestry of works written during a period of pivotal artistic evolution at the turn of the 19th century. American teenage piano sensation Maxim Lando joins Daniel Hope for Chausson's Concerto for Violin, Piano and Strings alongside the music of Elgar, Strauss and Schoenberg. Greek violinist Simos Papanas appears as Guest Concertmaster. Additional performances in Berkeley (September 26) and San Rafael (September 29).

This is what SF/Arts curator Jesse Hamlin has to say about Fin de siècle :

The prodigious teenage American pianist Maxim Lando (pictured) joins violinist Daniel Hope and the orchestra for Ernest Chausson’s 1891 Concerto for Violin, Piano and Strings on a fin de siècle program with music by Elgar, Strauss, Massenet and others. Greek violinist Simos Papanas serves a guest concertmaster.
