Smuin Contemporary Ballet launches its 26th season with Dance Series 1, a fall program featuring three extraordinary works by established and rising choreographers. The music of country icon Johnny Cash comes alive in "The Man in Black," an acclaimed work by James Kudelka for three men and a woman, danced in cowboy boots. Also featuring Rex Wheeler's "Take Five," a delightfully witty work set to a jazzy beat, and Michael Smuin's "Carmina Burana."
With their gaze cast on both the contemporary and classical ballet milieus, Smuin Ballet opens the first program of their 26th season. The stunning mixed repertory bill pairs James Kudelka’s “The Man in Black,” inspired by Johnny Cash; Rex Wheeler’s “Take Five,” which mines the conversation between dance and music; with the return of emotive drama with “Carmina Burana,” by Michael Smuin.
