Alexandre Singh: A Gothic Tale

Legion of Honor

Drawing inspiration from the Gothic literary tradition and San Francisco's iconic place in film noir, A Gothic Tale, will be fittingly staged throughout the Legion of Honor's galleries of medieval art. This newly commissioned exhibition introduces Singh's imaginative universe through his debut short film, The Appointment. Embracing the twisted and fantastical, this playful thriller is the darkly comic tale of mistaken identity. Select works from collections of the Fine Arts Museums will present eerie complements to the film.

This is what SF/Arts curator Christian L. Frock had to say about Alexandre Singh: A Gothic Tale :

With this new film and installation commissioned for the Legion of Honor, Bordeaux-born, New York-based artist Alexandre Singh explores both the literary traditions of 19th century Europe as well as San Francisco’s significance in film noir history. Conceptualized with art historian Natalie Musteata, this work explores the Gothic tradition from a variety of angles.
