Surreal Sublime: Contemporary Landscapes

San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art

This exhibition features artists exploring perception, psyche, and the wonders of nature through their dreamlike and sometimes apocalyptic interpretations of natural landscapes.

This is what SF/Arts curator Christian L. Frock had to say about Surreal Sublime: Contemporary Landscapes :

This impressive group exhibition features a wide range of work centered on the 18th-century notion of the sublime, a subgenre of landscape painting that evoked both awe and fear regarding the power of nature, a concept that has only become more poignant with the rising climate crisis. Mary Anne Kluth’s work is a personal favorite—and there are pieces here by many other great artists as well.
