Tanabe Chikuunsai IV: Connection

Asian Art Museum

Experience bamboo art on an unprecedented scale with a site-specific installation by Tanabe Chikuunsai IV, who pushes the limits of his craft.

This is what SF/Arts curator Christian L. Frock has to say about Tanabe Chikuunsai IV: Connection :

Tanabe Chikuunsai IV is a fourth-generation Japanese bamboo artist. Born Tanabe Takeo, he was bestowed the name Chikuunsai (master of the bamboo clouds) in 2017. His massive sculptures are made exclusively from tiger bamboo in the Kochi prefecture and the materials from every project are reclaimed for new work—the bamboo used here has had past lives in Paris, New York and São Paulo.
