About Things Loved: Blackness and Belonging

UC Berkeley Art Museum Pacific Film Archive
Featuring creations by Black artists in the collections of BAMPFA and the Hearst Museum of Anthropology, this exhibition organized by UC Berkeley graduate students imagines the liberatory possibilities of celebrating blackness and belonging.
This is what SF/Arts curator Christian L. Frock has to say about About Things Loved: Blackness and Belonging :
This brilliant exhibition, organized by students in a UC Berkeley graduate seminar titled “Diaspora | Migration | Exile,” presents an incredible roster of artists, including Romare Bearden, Mildred Howard, Julie Mehretu, Betye Saar and Fred Wilson, among many others. The exhibition does not aim to define Black art, only to show the possibilities that come forward when it is presented as the norm.
