"Kill Move Paradise" by James Ijames addresses the increasing numbers of black men and women cut down by racial violence; it's an expressionistic buzz saw through the contemporary myth that "all lives matter." Presented in conjunction with the Lorraine Hansberry Theatre.
Philadelphia playwright James Ijames won an award for this 2018 play, which is set in the afterlife, where a group of black men try to understand why they were killed. The New York Times called it a “choral tone poem of a play”; the interestingly named Ijames based the concept on the Elysium (the Elysian Fields were an ancient Greek concept of the afterlife). This is Shotgun’s second Ijames play. Darryl V. Jones directs.
