Calligraphies In Conversation

The San Francisco Center for the Book

Calligraphies in Conversation: An Exhibition of Multicultural Calligraphy encompasses an annual group exhibition and a series of public programs with the intention to bring diverse communities of the Bay Area together to share their culture and stories through the art of writing and calligraphy. This innovative exhibition, curated by Arash Shirinbab and local artists, focuses on initiating a meaningful conversation between different cultures, languages, and scripts existed in local communities and beyond.

This is what SF/Arts curator Christian L. Frock has to say about Calligraphies In Conversation :

This group exhibition, curated by Arash Shirinbab, features 15 artists engaged with international calligraphic traditions and fosters an intercultural conversation about shared rituals and conventions. If calligraphy is intended to elevate the written word, this exhibition aims to consider how such traditions are exemplified across cultures, social histories and geographies.
