Threaded Memories

African American Art & Culture Complex

Threaded Memories: Artworks By William Rhodes is an art exhibition consisting of drawing, painting, sculptures and quilts. Rhodes approach to the quilts involves interviewing African American seniors from San Francisco. The interviews were compiled into a video and Rhodes hand painted portraits of each senior onto fabric squares that were sewn into quilts. The quilts have become a historic documentation of a forgotten community.
