Investigation of Memory

Oakland Museum of California

Discover Mildred Howard's TAP: Investigation of Memory, a powerful multimedia installation that examines themes of identity, church culture, gentrification, dance, activism, and more.

This is what SF/Arts curator Christian L. Frock has to say about Investigation of Memory :

Drawn from the Oakland Museum of California’s permanent collection, this immersive installation by Bay Area legacy artist Mildred Howard examines identity, dance, activism and community. It features an original shoe-shine stand from Oakland’s historic California Hotel, a former cultural center for the African American community in the 1940s, ’50s and ’60s.
