A Picture is a Word: The Posters of Rex Ray

GLBT Historical Society

This exhibition surveys the graphic works of internationally renowned San Francisco queer artist and designer Rex Ray (1956--2015). It features posters and related ephemera reflecting the Bay Area music scene and LGBTQ publishing.

This is what SF/Arts curator Christian L. Frock had to say about A Picture is a Word: The Posters of Rex Ray :

The late longtime Bay Area legend Rex Ray was a widely recognized force in art, design and rock ’n’ roll—David Bowie, for whom Ray designed posters and album covers, was one of the first to mark his passing online. Rex Ray’s expansive body of work reflects all three of his key influences simultaneously, in his imitable, uniquely San Franciscan, style.
