Diane Samuels: It's a Long Story

San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art

Diane Samuels: It's a Long Story features work that the artist paints, collages, and then painstakingly handwrites texts from books in mircro-script. Lorrie Fredette will premier new sculptural work in her installation tender exchanges, creating an environment that references neural networks, tree roots, and microbes. Primordial Soup is a site-specific collaborative installation by artists Tracey Adams and Virginia Folkestad.

This is what SF/Arts curator Christian L. Frock had to say about Diane Samuels: It's a Long Story :

Pittsburgh-based artist Diane Samuels creates monumental, labor-intensive mixed-media works that combine literature with painting, drawing and collage, resulting in massive re-interpretations of entire novels as wall-based works that tumble down those walls and unfurl across galleries. One such piece, based on Herman Melville’s “Moby Dick,” is 47 feet long and 8 feet wide.
