Her Portmanteau

American Conservatory Theater

By Mfoniso Udofia; directed by Victor Malana Maog. Traveling from Lagos to visit her mother and American-born sister for the first time in two decades, thirty-something Iniabasi arrives to a snowy landscape, and even chillier truths inside a small Manhattan apartment. As Nigerian traditions clash with American realities, the family is forced to confront its literal and emotional baggage and its painful legacies across language, continents, and cultures

This is what SF/Arts curator Jean Schiffman had to say about Her Portmanteau :

Several seasons ago, we were first treated, at the Magic Theatre, to playwright Mfoniso Udofia’s ambitious and illuminating series of plays that follow the lives of a family of Nigerian immigrants. Now, A.C.T. picks up the mantle with this drama, part of the series, as a thirtysomething Nigerian woman travels to Manhattan to visit her mother and sister. Victor Malana Maog directs. Stay tuned for another play in this series at the Magic in March.
