Tim Hawkinson: All that glitters, Must come down

Pace Palo Alto

As a painter, draftsman and sculptor, Hawkinson has become renowned for his limitless imagination and ability to create new forms of perception. His work manipulates what is most familiar to us in ways that invite close examination by the viewer, welcome previously unimaginable perspectives, and encourage a sense of wonder.

This is what SF/Arts curator Christian L. Frock has to say about Tim Hawkinson: All that glitters, Must come down :

Artist and writer Doug Harvey once described Tim Hawkinson’s work as “sublime and ridiculous” (Encyclopedia Hawkinsoniae, Whitney Museum of American Art, 2004), effectively summing up a long career of manipulating everyday objects to great effect. In this solo show of new work, we are treated to impressions of his own unremarkable body parts, among other things, transformed per always.
