The White Elephant Archive

Oshman Family Jewish Community Center

In this intensely personal one-man production, award-winning multimedia artist Eduard Freudmann uses his family's archive to explore their silence about the Holocaust, and his own attempt to understand the burden of this legacy through art. Reflecting on the politics of Holocaust commemoration in Austria, and larger questions about how to speak of a horror once its witnesses are gone or silent, The White Elephant Archive provides a rare and important glimpse into the experience of the third generation living in Europe, and the impact of trauma across generations.

This is what SF/Arts curator Betsy Crabtree has to say about The White Elephant Archive :

Award-winning multi-media artist Eduard Freudmann mined his Austrian Jewish family archive to attempt to first understand their silence on the Holocaust, and then to explore larger questions surrounding the silence in this one-man performance about the trauma across generations. $15-$20.
