Native Gardens

TheatreWorks Silicon Valley

Presenting "Native Gardens," a cutting-edge suburban comedy from America's hottest new playwright and National Latino Playwriting Award winner Karen Zacarías. When an up-and-coming Latino couple purchases a home in a sought-after neighborhood, conflicts arise with a neighbor over fences and flora, spiraling into an uproarious clash of cultures and notions of race, taste, class and privilege.

This is what SF/Arts curator Jean Schiffman has to say about Native Gardens :

This comedy by Karen Zacarías, a National Latino Playwriting Award winner, has been on the regional theater circuit for a few years. In it, a Latino couple buys a home in a ritzy neighborhood, and property-line disagreement with the couple next door, avid gardeners, spins out of control, revealing all sorts of hidden prejudices. The Chicago Tribune called it a rare contemporary comedy about “racism, sexism, ageism and cultural privilege.&rdquo
