Venezuelan Music Project

Yerba Buena Gardens Festival

Jackeline Rago, a percussion expert and master of the diminutive four-string cuatro, Venezuela's national instrument, has assembled a cast of collaborators in the Venezuelan Music Project including percussionists Omar Ledezma and Braulio Barrera. Together they explore folkloric Venezuelan forms such as joropo and merengue (not to be confused with the popular Dominican dance style of the same name).

This is what SF/Arts curator Jack Hirsch had to say about Venezuelan Music Project :

Orchestrated by the percussion virtuoso and master of the four-string cuatro Jackeline Rago, the Venezuelan Music Project brings the rich culture of Venezuelan music to the Bay Area. Alongside percussionist greats Omar Ledezma and Braulio Barrera, the group exemplifies classic Venezuelan forms such as joropo and merengue.
