Book Passage

Wild Geese Sorrow presents new translations of the anonymous Chinese poetry carved into the men's barracks walls at the Angel Island Immigration Station. The poems take readers through the deep anger, sorrow, and loneliness felt by early immigrants detained between 1910-1940. They tell of arrival, long detentions, medical exams, political outrage, and for some, deportation, information so relevant to our current immigration policy debates.
