Clemantine Wamariya: The Girl Who Smiled Beads

The Bindery hosts Clemantine Wamariya for her extraordinary debut, The Girl Who Smiled Beads, and her coauthor Elizabeth Weil, who collaborated intimately with Clemantine to write this luminescent book. Clemantine and Elizabeth will be in conversation.

This is what SF/Arts curator Evan Karp had to say about Clemantine Wamariya: The Girl Who Smiled Beads :

Clemantine Wamariya's debut, "The Girl Who Smiled Beads," tells the real-life story of her and her sister's escape, at the ages of six and fifteen, from the Rwandan genocide, and their journey, over the subsequent six years and through seven countries, to safety. After being granted refugee status in the U.S., their lives diverge. Clemantine speaks with collaborator Elizabeth Weil.
