Joyce Maynard with Katherine Maxfield

Montalvo Arts Center

Montalvo Arts Center continues its Montalvo Writers Series with a literary luncheon with author/journalist Joyce Maynard. The moderator of the conversation will be Katherine Maxfield. Known for her friendly yet probing style that encourages writers to reveal their thought processes and creative practices, Maxfield will discuss Maynard's career and her most recent publication, The Best of Us. A life-affirming reflection on coming to understand true love through the experience of loss, The Best of Us follows the 19-month battle that Maynard and her husband endured as he fought pancreatic cancer.

This is what SF/Arts curator Betsy Crabtree had to say about Joyce Maynard with Katherine Maxfield :

Joyce Maynard took the literary world by storm as a 20-year-old memoirist: she wrote "Looking Back: A Chronicle of Growing Up Old in the Sixties" while she lived with the reclusive writer J.D. Salinger. Join Maynard for a literary luncheon at Montalvo, where she and Katherine Maxfield discuss her latest work, "The Best of Us," about her husband's battle with pancreatic cancer. $50 includes lunch and wine.
