Jennifer Brandon & Jay DeFeo

Mills College Art Museum/Oakland

"Jennifer Brandon & Jay DeFeo: Photographic Works" features new work by Bay Area photographer Jennifer Brandon alongside rarely seen photocopies and photographs by the ground-breaking visual artist Jay DeFeo. Featuring approximately 40 works, including photograms, photographic collages, photocopies and gelatin silver prints, this exhibition explores each artist's interest in the intersection of physical materials and photographic process.

This is what SF/Arts curator Christian L. Frock had to say about Jennifer Brandon & Jay DeFeo :

This exhibition considers the work of contemporary artist Jennifer Brandon alongside experimental works by the late Jay DeFeo, a pivotal figure among Bay Area Beat artists in the 1950s and 1960s. The works on display feature photograms, photographic collages, photocopies and gelatin silver prints-mining each artist's interest in the photographic process and materiality.
