Contemporary Muslim Fashion

M.H. de Young Museum

This pioneering exhibition examines how Muslim women--those who choose to cover their heads and those who do not--have become arbiters of style within and beyond their communities, and in so doing, have drawn mass-media attention to contemporary Muslim life.

This is what SF/Arts curator Christian L. Frock had to say about Contemporary Muslim Fashion :

This exhibition claims to be the first of its kind to explore the complexities of Muslim dress codes around the world and the role of Muslim women, in particular, in setting the terms for understanding contemporary Muslim life through dress. Featuring high-end fashions, different religious interpretations and cultural artifacts, as well as runway footage, news clips and photography.
