Car Culture: Car as Object, Car as Subject. This exhibit features eleven Bay Area artists who consider the automobile as technological marvel and dream-machine. Guest curator Tyler Hoare has designed and customized cars for decades, but the public knows him as the sculptor of the "Snoopy and the Red Baron" airplanes he builds and displays perched pilings in the Bay in front of Berkeley (those planes that look like toys are generally 20 feet long).
This all-male group exhibition of 11 Bay Area artists explores the automobile as a central image in American life. It’s organized by guest curator artist Tyler Hoare and features works by Evan Bennett, Jack Bishop, Frank DeRos and Jack Fulton, among many others. The works in the exhibition consider the car in its current form as a transportation vehicle as well as imagined future uses.
