Robert Rauschenberg: Erasing the Rules

San Francisco Museum of Modern Art

From the 1940s until his passing in 2008, Rauschenberg worked with everything from photography to items scavenged from New York City streets to vats of bubbling mud. More than 150 of Rauschenberg's artworks, including prints, sculptures, paintings, and Combines (works that incorporate painting and sculpture), will be on view in this retrospective.

This is what SF/Arts curator Christian L. Frock had to say about Robert Rauschenberg: Erasing the Rules :

Robert Rauschenberg is considered one of the most important American artists of the 20th century and his list of collaborators is extensive. This solo exhibition presents more than 150 of his iconic artworks, including prints, sculptures, paintings and Combines (works that blur the boundary between painting and sculpture, now a common occurrence—and radical for their time).
