la mere la mer

McEvoy Foundation for the Arts

la mère la mer features works from the collection of Nion McEvoy and the collection of his mother, Nan Tucker McEvoy (1919–2015). The exhibition pays tribute to Nan McEvoy's devoted, life-long interest in and support of California artists. The exhibition is organized around a principle of poetic assonance: Works from the collection of the mother (la mère) resonate with works from the collection of the son and many depict the sea (la mer).

This is what SF/Arts curator Christian L. Frock had to say about la mere la mer :

In these challenging times, it always wonderful to see a new arts organization take root in the Bay Area—welcome, McEvoy Foundation for the Arts, to the Bay Area’s cultural landscape. Its inaugural exhibition pays homage to matriarch Nan McEvoy’s (1919–2015) lifelong support of California artists, while also showcasing international artists in the McEvoy collection.
