Encore: The Legacy of Steve French

San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art

In conjunction with Overture: The Art of Steve French, we are proud to honor French's teaching legacy with an exhibition of work by his former students, many of whom have remained in the Bay Area since graduating from SJSU, earning acclaim both regionally and nationally. Included in this presentation are Marsha Briggs, Erin Goodwin-Guerrero, Eric Hoffman, Howard Ikemoto, Katherine Huffacker Jones, Tony May, Valerie Patten, Steve Pon, and more.

This is what SF/Arts curator Christian L. Frock had to say about Encore: The Legacy of Steve French :

Two simultaneous exhibitions pay homage to the late artist Steve French, a longtime advocate for the arts in San Jose and a former professor in the art department at San Jose State University. “Overture” considers French’s more than 50-year career, spanning a wide range of media. “Encore” presents the work of French’s former students and demonstrates his lasting impact on generations of artists.
