About Abstraction

Bedford Gallery, Lesher Center for the Arts

About Abstraction: Bay Area Women Painters. This exhibit celebrates 16 Bay Area women artists, emerging and established, who have worked in abstraction for years. There is no monolithic visual definition of abstraction, and this show provides a platform for a breadth of work that features precise, powerful lines, as well as gestural patterns.

This is what SF/Arts curator Christian L. Frock had to say about About Abstraction :

With works by 16 Bay Area painters, including Amy Ellingson, Emaneula Harris-Sintamarian, Michelle Mansour, Alicia McCarthy and Mel Prest, among many others, this exhibition takes the pulse on contemporary abstract painting. The Bay Area has a long history with abstraction – this exhibition shines a light on the present future of such work.
